IBM to Offer Quantum-Safe Cloud Security Services in 2020

IBM is slated to begin offering next-generation cryptography services on the IBM public cloud next year to help clients better protect their systems against emerging cybersecurity threats. The company said Friday that it’ll also offer quantum risk assessment services and an enterprise-class tape storage system designed for quantum computing operations.

“IBM Cloud is taking the critical steps needed to help enterprises ensure their data stays secure in a quantum future,” said Harish Grama, general manager at IBM Cloud. “Starting in 2020, IBM Cloud will roll out new services that will help keep data secured and private from the emerging cybersecurity challenges presented by future quantum computers.”

It also plans to update its systems and services in three to five years to meet the National Institute of Standards and Technology’s requirements for quantum-safe digital assets. IBM made the announcement during the NIST-organized Second Post-Quantum Cryptography Standardization Conference in Santa Barbara, Calif.

The company also intends to support the development of quantum-safe algorithms through community-sourced projects such as OpenQuantumSafe.org.
