Burns & McDonnell broke ground at the site of a new readiness facility for the Colorado Army National Guard’s 117th Space Battalion.
According to a company statement published Tuesday, the 45.1K-square foot Space Readiness Center, whose groundbreaking ceremony was held July 19, will feature collaboration areas and is intended to enable space forces to perform contingency efforts, continuous updates, space control and support activities.
The center will also house updated geothermal platforms, LED lighting, stormwater systems and telecommunications infrastructure to achieve Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design Silver accreditation.
“Burns & McDonnell is proud to partner with the Colorado Department of Military and Veterans Affairs and subcontractors to design and construct a state-of-the-art facility for military operations,†said Mark Lichtwardt, senior vice president and general manager at Burns & McDonnell’s Denver site.
The company will carry out quality control, project management, design and engineering efforts for the facility. In addition, the firm will perform building envelope and commissioning tests after the project’s completion in October 2020.
