Lockheed Martin has proposed to lower the cost of the Department of Defense’s block F-35A purchases from $89.5M per aircraft to less than $80M each, Defense One reported Tuesday.

The 10-percent decrease covers 100 of the F-35 U.S. Air Force configuration and is one of three production lots that include F-35B jets for the Marine Corps and the F-35C version for Navy and allied forces.

The move comes as part of Lockheed’s efforts to meet its F-35 price targets by 2020.

The Bethesda, Md.-based company has supplied over 385 F-35 jets to the Air Force, Navy and Marine Corps as well as the country’s allies, the report noted.
