Vocera Communications secured authorization from the Department of Defense to offer a wearable medical communications platform for potential use by U.S. Air Force and Navy clinicians.
DoD granted authority to operate for the Vocera Badge, which is designed to comply with the Federal Information Processing Standards 140-2 and certified by Joint Interoperability Test Command, the company said Tuesday.
The hands-free device helps mobile healthcare personnel to remotely access electronic health records and other clinical assets.
Gregory Young, vice president of military health systems at Vocera, said the Army Medical Command has used the badge to facilitate care team communications.
The DoD ATO certification process evaluates a technology vendor's compliance with government security requirements and a risk management framework from the National Institute for Standards and Technology.
