Boeing has received a $39M contract modification from the U.S. Special Operations Command to finalize the production of four MH-47G Chinook rotar-wing helicopters.

The Department of Defense said Friday SOCOM seeks to address an "urgent" requirement to sustain heavy-assault, rotary-wing aircraft for special operations forces due to increased operational demand.

The U.S. Army Special Operations Aviation Command was awarded a $139.8M contract last year to build the Chinook variant with the Block II configuration.
