BAE Unveils Smart D2 Threat Interceptor System for Military Aircraft - top government contractors - best government contracting eventBAE Systems has introduced a warning system designed to help aircrews counter existing and emerging threats to military aircraft.

The company said Monday the Smart D2 system includes a two-way communication feature that allows airmen to access inventory data and apply expendable countermeasures such as multi-shot flares, active radio frequency decoys and kinetic interceptors in real time to thwart threats.

The technology can be installed on fixed- and rotary-wing aircraft, as well as incorporated into existing and future warning systems such as BAE’s 2-Color Advanced Warning System.

Paul Markwardt, vice president and general manager of survivability, targeting and sensing solutions at BAE, said Smart D2 combines smart inventory management with a collection of various countermeasures.

He added that Smart D2’s communications, inventory control and interoperability features intends to provide aircrews with survivability capabilities to complete their missions.
