The Defense Information Systems Agency seeks industry comments on available technologies for the development of a potential automated military cloud migration effort.
A FedBizOpps notice posted Wednesday says the agency is looking for migration systems that can duplicate servers used with an application from their current environment into a cloud platform built on an Apache CloudStack system and Kernel-based Virtual Machine.
The potential cloud migration service should be capable of automating the migration of operating systems to the new environment, the replication and synchronization of workload image data and the placement of data to proper file systems, among other things.
The government currently manually clones and converts server images into the new cloud environment, as well as develops and configures applications on virtual servers from scratch.
DISA will accept responses to the request for information until Sept. 10.
The RFI comes after the Defense Department told “fourth estate†agencies with 105 data centers to transfer their virtualized applications to DISA’s milCloud 2.0 platform by the end of March 2019 and migrate the rest of the systems to the cloud by September 2020.
