Maj. Gen. John Morrison, commander of the U.S. Army Cyber Center of Excellence, has announced that the U.S. Army will launch a drone-mounted electronic warfare technology in 2019, C4ISRNET reported Tuesday.
The service has started developing prototypes of the Multi-Function Electronic Warfare Air capability for installation on General Atomics-built MQ-1C Gray Eagle unmanned aircraft system.
MFEW includes the Terrestrial Layer System air capability, which will help EW/cyber cadre and signal intelligence forces deliver electronic warfare attacks during aerial operations.
The service leveraged a Defense Department other transaction authority with a member of the Consortium for Command, Control and Communications in Cyberspace to speed up the procurement process for the MFEW.
