Factom has received a Department of Homeland Security grant worth $192,380 to start beta testing of a blockchain technology designed to secure data in connected devices.
DHS said Friday the Austin, Texas-based company will evaluate a combination of blockchain and critical infrastructure sensor technologies in an outside location with minimal connectivity under the final phase of the Silicon Valley Innovation Program.
“In Phase IV, Factom will deploy this technology in a realistic field environment with Customs and Border Protection to understand its operational impacts,” said Anil John, a program manager at DHS’ science and technology directorate.
The company seeks to demonstrate the reliability of internet-of-things devices to spoof, disrupt or modify information from ground cameras and sensors.
Blockchain technology is designed to process transactions as blocks of information in a sequenced data chain to protect against data disruption, DHS noted.
