Mitre has partnered with University of Virginia’s School of Engineering and Applied Science to offer a fellowship opportunity to military and federal civilian employees in the field of systems engineering.
The nonprofit company said Wednesday the 12-month Systems Engineering Fellowship for Federal Employees program seeks to provide future government technology leaders access to hands-on research and project experience at Mitre and an employer-sponsored accelerated master’s degree in systems engineering at UVA.
“We are pleased to team with the University of Virginia School of Engineering to help federal employees tackle the systems engineering challenges of today and tomorrow through a unique combination of academic training and work experience,” said Mitre President and CEOÂ Alfred Grasso.
Mitre added agency employers will cover costs for tuition, salary and materials and support the participants’ one-year assignment to the company in Washington, where they will work on projects in aviation, cybersecurity, defense and intelligence, healthcare, homeland security and other areas.
The application period for the fellowship program will run through May 26, with the first cohort anticipated on August 23.
