Lockheed Martin has signed an agreement with the Department of Veterans Affairs in a bid to expand the company’s data security, integration and interoperability roles for the Million Veteran Program.
MVP is a voluntary research initiative that seeks to study the association of genes with health and diseases through the creation of a database containing health data and genetic samples from veterans, the company said Thursday.
Horace Blackman, vice president of health and life sciences at Lockheed’s information systems and global solutions business, said the company seeks to deliver data security, analytics and integration functions to bolster the VA’s information sharing and precision medicine efforts.
Lockheed and VA’s office of research and development will work to provide researchers secure access to clinical and genomic information, ensure security of stored genomic data and determine cohort analysis toolkits under the cooperative research and development agreement.
At least 450,000 veterans are enrolled in the program, which supports the current administration’s Precision Medicine Initiative.
