Jeff Yu serves as director of technology and engineering for the intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance division within the information systems sector at Northrop Grumman.
Yu leads a business organization that offers systems, applications and services for the intelligence, defense, and national security communities and his focus areas include the division’s technology investment portfolio and its research and development program.
He also oversees innovation programs and technology partnerships.
The division works in technology fields such as big data, analytics, large-scale information systems, enterprise architectures, cloud computing, location-based services, geospatial intelligence, signal processing, mission management and command and control, signal processing, sensors, mission-ready systems, software, hardware and radio frequency engineering.
Yu joined TRW (later acquired by Northrop) in 1992 as a systems engineer in the electromagnetic systems laboratory and focused much of his time on signal processing and technology development for telecommunications and networking systems.
Northrop said became one of the youngest engineers to be selected as a principal engineer at the ESL.
His other roles at Northrop have included director of technology and engineering for the IS sector’s former divisions in federal and defense technologies, civil systems, intelligence systems and cyber intelligence divisions.
Yu was a founding advisory board member of the Cync early-stage incubator program, which was a partnership between Northrop and the Cyber Incubator at the University of Maryland Baltimore County.
He holds a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from Princeton University and a master’s degree and degree of engineer — both in electrical engineering – from Stanford University.
Yu is also a graduate of the North Carolina School of Science and Mathematics.
