KBR has secured a contract to provide basic engineering design and licensing services for a greenfield urea plant construction project in Gorakhpur, India.
The company said Wednesday it will help design the ammonia plant for Hindustan Urvarak and Rasayan Ltd. as part of the contract with Toyo Engineering Corp.
HURL will establish the Gorakhpur plant to support the Indian government’s national goal to achieve self-sufficiency in urea production.
India’s last set of urea plants was built more than 10 years ago, KBR noted.
New Delhi-based HURL is a joint venture of Indian public sector companies Coal India Ltd., NTPC and Indian Oil Corp. Ltd. in partnership with the Fertilizer Corp. of India Ltd. and Hindustan Fertilizer Corp. Ltd.
