The U.S. Army has partnered with Helius Medical Technologies through a cooperative research and development agreement that seeks to improve soldier readiness and resilience with the use of technology.
Helius and the Army Research Laboratory will launch an effort to investigate the potential use of the company’s Portable Neuromodulation Stimulator in military cognitive and psychological preparedness efforts, the Army said Tuesday.
Researchers from both parties look to integrate PoNS and mindfulness meditation training approach in efforts to measure neurocognitive performance and self-reported symptoms by participants before and after training.
ARL also currently examines the preventative effects of mindfulness meditation training on active duty service members and military veterans through an ongoing research effort at Fort Sam Houston.
The lab is also studying how the method can help address post-traumatic stress disorder symptoms or military service-related anxiety.
