Rockwell Collins has received a contract to provide a new helmet mounted display platform for integration with the U.S. Army‘s Aviation Combined Arms Tactical Trainer systems.
The company said Tuesday it will update 332 SimEye HMD units for the military branch and expects to complete the upgrades by October 2019.
SimEye will be equipped with new display and optical capacities in an effort to offer realism to training scenarios, Rockwell Collins added.
The U.S. Army Program Executive Office for Simulation, Training, and Instrumentation issued the contract.
“We worked very closely with the PEO STRI to fine tune the HMD as technology continues to evolve,†said Nick Gibbs, vice president and general manager of Rockwell Collins’ simulation and training solutions unit.
The company will also update SimEye’s software for the Army to manage AVCATTs when it trains their helicopter crews.
