The fleet of V-22 Osprey tiltrotor aircraft, produced by a joint venture of Boeing and Textron‘s Bell Helicopter subsidiary, has recorded more than 400,000 flight hours to date.
Bell Boeing-built V-22s have supported theater security cooperation, casualty evacuation, tactical aircraft and personnel recovery, disaster response and VIP transport operations worldwide, Boeing said Tuesday.
The U.S. Marine Corps has used the MV-22 variant since 2007 while the U.S. Air Force‘s Special Operations Command has used the CV-22 variant since 2009.
Boeing noted the platform was used in Afghanistan and Iraq during Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation Iraqi Freedom, as well as supported a long-range rapid reaction/crisis response force under the U.S. Central Command.
V-22 is built with tiltrotor technology that integrates a helicopter’s vertical performance with a fixed-wing aircraft’s speed and range capacity.
