Peter Hadinger, president of Inmarsat‘s U.S. government business unit, has said that ongoing military operations require an improved acquisition model for satellite communications and further integration of commercial satcom systems.
Hadinger stated during a presentation at the Global MilSatCom 2017 event in London that military satcom challenges stem from budget, acquisition and cultural issues instead of technological capabilities, Inmarsat said Friday.
He added that an integrated commercial architecture and strategy is necessary to provide satcom systems that are interoperable with government-owned and operated platforms.
Hadinger noted that Inmarsat sees satcom as-a-service as “the standard-setter for satellite acquisition.”
Satcom as-a-service will give military customers access to fully integrated commercial platforms within an end-to-end managed service architecture, according to Hadinger.
