Raytheon has opened a customer engagement center in Canberra, Australia, that features a virtual reality immersive environment designed for the company’s defense customers, engineers and industry partners.
The company said Monday the center’s opening event was attended by Raytheon CEO Thomas Kennedy; Michael Ward, managing director of Raytheon’s Australian subsidiary; and Christopher Pyne, Australian minister for defense industry.
Ward noted the company also seeks to open innovation and collaboration opportunities for defense and suppliers through the new facility.
The facility’s CAVE platform consists of 72 video screens with a 320-degree viewing angle and uses stereoscopic projection and three-dimensional computer graphics to display virtual images of warship designs and simulations.
Raytheon added the system can integrate with similar facilities in the U.S. to facilitate international collaboration in real time.
A smaller portable version of CAVE will work to help Raytheon interact with the company’s suppliers.
