Huntington Ingalls Industries turned over the USS John Finn guided missile destroyer to the U.S. Navy during a ceremony held on the Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day.
HII’s Ingalls Shipbuilding division signed the DD 250 document that represents the official transfer of the ship’s custody to the military service, the company said Wednesday.
“Years of working with the DDG 51 program has created a team of shipbuilders who truly understand what it means to build these ships,” said George Nungesser, Ingalls’ DDG 51 program manager.
“Today they share in the honor of delivering this ship on the 75th anniversary of Pearl Harbor and are able to take a moment to honor the men and women who will continue to carry on the mission that John Finn and his fellow sailors fought so bravely for.”
HII has delivered 28 Arleigh Burke-class guided missile destroyer ships to the Navy and currently builds an additional four destroyers.
