Cubic‘s transportation systems business unit has secured a $40.3 million contract extension from the New York City Transit segment of the Metropolitan Transportation Authority for software programming and maintenance support.
The company said Thursday the contract covers assistance on the management of the MetroCard automated fare collection system on an as-needed basis until 2022 as well as equipment purchases including turnstiles and end cabinets to support the rollout of the Select Bus Service.
“Cubic has proudly served New York’s public transit system for more than 20 years with the introduction of the iconic MetroCard, and we’re pleased to continue our partnership with the MTA,” said Matt Cole, president of Cubic Transportation Systems.
MTA will deploy a new fare payment system with mobile ticketing and open payments capacities through contactless bankcards designed to operate in parallel with and replace MetroCard.
