McMurdo has secured a contract of an undisclosed value to develop prototypes of a custom personnel recovery device to aid the U.S. Army‘s search and rescue of soldiers in distress.
The PRD will be part of the Army’s Personnel Recovery Support System as a militarized locator beacon, McMurdo said Tuesday.
The Orolia Group company will incorporate a dual-mode feature into the device to assist in training and to provide operational distress signals.
“The Army recognized a need to complement its PRSS with a dual mode, easy-to-use distress beacon to provide initial report/locate functionality, even in remote locations,” said Mark Cianciolo, general manager of McMurdo’s aerospace, defense and government programs.
McMurdo also received a contract from the U.S. Coast Guard in August to produce 16,000 FastFind 220 personal locator beacons for the service branch.
