DRS Technologies has received a potential $41.6 million contract from the U.S. Army to develop an infrared sensor for a system mounted on ground combat vehicles.
Under the cost-plus-incentive-fee contract, DRS will integrate a two-color IR sensor with the Third-Generation Forward Looking Infrared Dewar Cooler Bench platform designed to help mounted troops identity and engage enemy targets, the company said Monday.
Shawn Black, vice president and general manager of infrared sensors and systems at DRS, said the contract award aims to reflect the company’s commitment to support the service branch’s combat readiness efforts.
DCB works to gather thermal radiation and generate infrared images to help warfighters detect targets in any lighting and weather conditions.
The military branch plans to carry out a critical design review for the DCB program in early 2017, followed by low-rate initial production by fiscal year 2020 and full-rate production by FY 2024.
