Luxembourg-based geostationary satellite operator SES has introduced a portable platform designed to perform communications, surveillance and situational awareness functions during disaster response, border security and event monitoring missions.
The SES-built Tactical Persistent Surveillance offering is based on an inflatable aerostat platform that carries communications and electro-optical sensor payloads at an altitude of up to 1,000 feet, SES said Thursday.
Nicole Robinson, head of government market solutions center at SES, said TPS is part of the company’s Government+ portfolio of intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance offerings and works to help emergency response and defense teams perform intelligence data collection and analysis.
The sensor and communication payloads onboard TPS work to transmit satellite-based ISR data and videos to a control center through the use of Ku-band antennas.
The company said its TPS platform is designed to integrate multiple-input, multiple-output radio systems and provide a mobile communications network with broadband connectivity to first responders and defense teams in infrastructure-denied environments.
