Lawson State Community College and New York City College of Technology will both receive a $500,000 grant from NASA‘s Minority University Research and Education Project to help strengthen science, technology, engineering and math programs in schools.
LSCC in Alabama and NYCCT in Brooklyn both took part in MUREP Other Opportunities solicitation to present an innovative solution for STEM activity development and implementation, the agency said Tuesday.
The agency added that the program sought to increase students studying under fields relevent to NASA’s diverse exploration missions.
“NASA’s MUREP program helps colleges and universities give students from underrepresented and underserved communities a strong foundation in STEM fields, which in turn helps create a strong STEM workforce,” said Donald James, NASA’s Office of Education associate administrator.
