A team comprising Airbus Group‘s defense and space unit and Telespazio‘s French subsidiary has secured a follow-on contract to provide satellite-based maritime surveillance services to the French navy.
France’s maritime zone commanders will have access to a portal of radar and optical satellite images as well as automatic identification system data under the four-year Trimaran 2 program, Airbus said Thursday.
Airbus and Telespazio analysts will interpret gathered satellite images and AIS data for the French navy, then send reports on the type, position, speed and direction of detected vessels to the military branch’s maritime command zones via the portal.
The team’s satellite-based service will work to help the French navy carry out search-and-rescue, maritime resource preservation and anti-trafficking and illegal immigration operations, according to Airbus.
