ThalesThales has secured an export contract to deliver an integrated platform for identifying and detecting small civilian unmanned aircraft systems to a Southeast Asian country.

The company said Thursday it will integrate a Gecko optronic system, Squire radar technology and thermal cameras in an effort to help the customer detect UAS at various deployable posts.

“Thales is excited to embark on this project with the aim of tackling the complexity of detecting small-size drones and the challenges that we face due to the civil use of drones in airspaces worldwide,” Jose Sarnito, business development director of aeronautics, defense and security at Thales in Spain.

Thales originally developed its Gecko technology for the Spanish military and civilian markets.

According to the company, Gecko is used on the Spanish Army’s RG-31 protected vehicles and designed to support  route clearance, surveillance, border protection and drug trafficking missions.
