Northrop Grumman has completed the preliminary design review of the inertial sensor module in the U.S. Navy‘s WSN-12 Inertial Navigation System Replacement that will succeed the current WSN-7 system.
“This is a critical system for both surface and subsurface platforms,” Todd Leavitt, vice president of Northrop’s maritime systems business unit, said Monday.
He adds that the review was conducted in only four months.
“INS-R is an important system and a foundation for assured positioning, navigation and timing requirements,” said Barbie Fidura of the Naval Sea Systems Command’s program executive office for above-water navigation.
Northrop said the PDR is one of the four major system technical reviews to be conducted on the program while its engineering development models are currently in production with a mid-2017 planned delivery date.
