Bill Rowan, vice president of federal sales at VMware, has said federal agencies should work to converge private and off-premises cloud platforms through hybrid clouds as they adopt the as-a-service business model.
Rowan wrote in an article published in the March/April 2016 issue of GCN magazine that a hybrid cloud is designed to provide agencies with more flexibility in the management of workloads and applications and help them meet service, cost and security requirements.
Rowan, an inductee into Executive Mosaic’s Wash100 for 2016, said hybrid clouds work as a “bridge†between private clouds that work to help agencies monitor and control critical applications and off-premises or public clouds that support “scalable” services as needed.
He also noted the development of applications in cloud environments as another shift in the marketplace that government leaders should consider.
“Applications have historically been moved to the cloud, but now new solutions will be built with the understanding they’ll run on a cloud infrastructure,” Rowan said in the piece.
“There will be more focus placed on defining the needs and desires relative to the application.”
