Raytheon to Continue Dev’t of EW Systems for Boeing Missiles Under AF Contract

Raytheon has secured a $4.8 million U.S. Air Force contract to continue the development of an electronic warfare payload for Boeing-built cruise missiles.

The contract requires refurbishment of the Counter-Electronics High Power Microwave Advanced Missile and a pair of Conventional Air-Launched Cruise Missile systems for delivery to the Air Force Research Laboratory, Raytheon said Wednesday.

The CHAMP payload, which was created by a team that includes Boeing and Sandia National Laboratories, is designed to counter enemies’ electronic systems, Raytheon noted.

Thomas Bussing, Raytheon vice president for the advanced missile systems business unit, said the CHAMP-CALCM pairing will work to weaken adversary infrastructure and lower the risk of collateral damage.

Raytheon Missile Systems Ktech will perform the refurbishment work on CHAMP and CALCM.

AFRL held a flight test in October 2012 to demonstrate the functionality of CHAMP.
