Steve Williams, capability manager for Finmeccanica‘s airborne and space systems division, has said his company developed its Falcon Shield system to help reduce the risks from small unmanned aerial vehicles, Defense News reported Monday.
Lara Seligman writes Falcon Shield is designed as a modular system to ward off drone threats in small areas and large infrastructures.
Williams told Defense News the technology works to identify, track and defeat UAVs that pose threats, according to the report.
Falcon Shield incorporates radar, infrared search and track, electro-optical/infrared camera and acoustic sensors, according to Williams.
Finmeccanica has begun talks with the Defense Department to pursue business opportunities for Falcon Shield, the report says.
“The demand actually is across the entire sphere of those areas because actually, be it a deployed operating base, let’s say in the Far East, or an airport in Washington, they have the exact same problem,†Williams said.
