L-3 Communications’ MAPPS division has received a contract from Romanian state-owned utilities firm Societatea Nationala Nuclearelectrica to update the emulation platform of the digital control computer simulator at SNN’s Cernavoda nuclear power plant.
The DCC emulation platform is based on the L-3 MAPPS-built Orchid Control System and works to support the functions of DCCs, including system switchover, standard emulation commands, failover, monitoring and debugging operations, L-3 MAPPS said Thursday.
The Orchid Control System is designed to automate and monitor power generation tools and electrical substations.
Michael Chatlani, vice president of marketing and sales for power systems and simulation at L-3 MAPPS, said the company will work to leverage its experience in the development of simulators and DCC hardware for nuclear power plants under its contract with SNN.
L-3 MAPPS expects the upgraded emulation software to be operational by the first quarter of 2017.
