Cathy Ricketts, a program manager at the Defense Information Systems Agency, has said DISA seeks a “disruptive system” to update infrastructure that U.S. military agencies use to manage joint operations globally, Defense One reported Wednesday.
Frank Konkel writes Ricketts added the agency plans to use open standards, user interface applications, open-source codes and agile processes for the Global Command and Control System-Joint modernization project.
DISA is seeking ideas on how to build and embed cloud computing, visualization and big data management tools into the GCCS-J infrastructure, according to a request for information posted Nov. 25 on FedBizOpps.
Ricketts told Defense One the agency could launch a formal solicitation for the project in mid-May and aims to award a contract early next year.
DISA also plans to conduct research into cloud-based widgets and other potential applications for current GCCS-J users to process geospational data, the report said.
Northrop Grumman maintains the system for the Defense Department.
