The National Nuclear Security Administration plans to award a new contract for the management of Los Alamos National Laboratory in 2017 in a move to fulfill the facility’s performance goals, The Associated Press reported Monday.
Los Alamos National Security, a consortium of Bechtel Corp. and the University of California, currently holds the annual $2 billion contract to operate the New Mexico-based national lab since 2006, according to the report.
That contract is set to expire in September 2017 and the consortium will continue to oversee the facility through 2018 during the transition process, AP reports.
NNSA decided to look for new managers for the lab after a series of incidents at the facility and said ongoing evaluation of the lab will wrap up in January 2016, the report says.
