A Northrop Grumman executive has said the company’s concept for the future sixth-generation fighter jet will work to manage heat that sensors and weapons produce, Flight Global reported Saturday.
Stephen Trimble writes Tom Vice, vice president at Northrop’s aerospace systems business, demonstrated the concept for the new combat plane as the defense contractor prepares to compete for the U.S. Air Force’s F-X program and the U.S. Navy’s FA-XX initiative.
Both programs seek to replace the service branches’ current fighter fleet, Trimble reports.
Chris Hernandez, vice president for research, technology and advanced design at Northrop, cited range and weapon payload as some of the primary parameters for the company’s proposed NG Air Dominance fighter aircraft, Breaking Defense reported Monday.
Colin Clark writes that Northrop has formed two design teams to build the new fighter plane.
