The First Responder Network Authority moved closer to the deployment of a nationwide public safety broadband network after its board approved a national acquisition strategy and other elements of the program’s request for proposals.
FirstNet said Friday the board’s approval of the “Final Acquisition Approach” and “Final Interpretations of the Act” resolutions works to support efforts to release the final RFP before the end of the year.
“The approach we approved today provides a nationwide solution for a public safety network,” said FirstNet Chairperson Sue Swenson.
“It promotes speed-to-market and partnering among rural, small business, tribal, regional and national providers.”
The board added that the “Final Interpretations of the Act” resolution facilitates the release of definitions and final interpretations of 64 statutory provisions in the Middle Class Tax Relief and Job Creation Act of 2012.
FirstNet issued the draft RFP for public comment in April.
