Textron‘s unmanned systems subsidiary has delivered equipment and personnel to the U.S. Forest Service and Interior Department to support wildfire response operations in Idaho.
The company said Thursday it deployed its Aerosonde drone, iCommand tool and Remote Video Terminal products to provide imagery and coordinate responders during the wildfire.
“Unmanned systems can operate where it may be unsafe or impractical for manned aircraft to fly,” said David Phillips, vice president for small/medium-endurance UAS at Textron Systems.
“Quiet operation and a small equipment footprint also help support these time-critical response missions.”
VDOS Global and FireWhat also provided support for the wildfire response operations, Textron noted.
Aerosonde carries sensors that work to provide real-time situational awareness as well as other payloads such as electro-optic/infrared systems and communications relay.
