The U.S. Navy has ordered $20.9 million in night vision helmet-mounted displays from a Rockwell Collins and Elbit Systems joint venture to help pilots engage targets, Military & Aerospace Electronics reported Tuesday.
John Keller writes Rockwell Collins-ESA Vision Systems will produce 120 joint helmet mounted cueing system night vision cueing and display systems, 30 helmet mounted display test sets and 120 spares for the U.S. Naval Air Systems Command.
The night vision cueing and display systems work to project symbology and imagery onto the helmet-mounted visor of the pilot in order to assist in detecting targets and cuing missiles, according to the report.
Rockwell Collins-ESA Vision Systems will manufacture the display systems in New Hampshire, Oregon, Atlanta and Texas through August 2019, Keller reports.
