Saab Inc. plans to establish a new facility in the city of Grayling in Michigan, with groundbreaking set for the fourth quarter of 2024.
Saab said Tuesday that the facility, its 10th in the U.S., will be dedicated to the production of munitions, with initial manufacturing set to begin by early 2026.
Erik Smith, the president and CEO of Saab Inc., described the project as “a long-term commitment” to the U.S. defense industrial base as well as the community of Grayling.
“Saab is proud to partner with the state of Michigan and the local community to establish a world-class facility that, with our range of products, will increase and modernize the domestic production of munition systems,” Smith said.
For her part, Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer said the new facility will bring jobs to Grayling and “contribute to Michigan’s proud legacy and leadership in the defense industry.”
