General Atomics‘ aeronautical systems division has completed the first EagleEye multi-mode radar, designed to allow operators to conduct surveillance through challenging atmospheric conditions such as clouds, rain, dust, smoke and fog.
The radar will serve as a “drop-in” enhancement for the U.S. Army’s existing Gray Eagle Extended Range unmanned aircraft systems and will be part of the initial configuration for the new Gray Eagle 25M UAS, General Atomics said Friday.
EagleEye provides radar-based full-motion video for live tracking of moving targets, even in adverse weather, while operating outside most threat zones to enhance survivability.
Additionally, the radar features a maritime wide area search mode for tracking and targeting vessels.
Jeff Hettick, GA-ASI’s vice president of agile mission systems, stated that the company expects to deliver the radar to the U.S. Army soon.
