Intelsat has agreed to purchase $250 million worth of services from Eutelsat Group’s OneWeb low Earth orbit constellation over six years to expand the former’s multi-orbit satellite connectivity offering.
The agreement also includes an option to buy additional OneWeb LEO constellation service for another $250 million to increase the global coverage and capacity of Intelsat’s network connectivity, the telecommunications service provider said Tuesday.
“We’ve been partnering with Eutelsat for quite some time now, leveraging its OneWeb LEO constellation to offer a multi-orbit solution, primarily in commercial aviation,” said Dave Wajsgras, CEO of Intelsat.
“We believe it’s in Intelsat’s interests, Eutelsat’s interests, and our customers’ interests for us to expand the partnership that’s already in place – one that is working well and has strong demand,” the seven-time Wash100 awardee added.
Under the partnership, Intelsat will also guide the development of Eutelsat’s next-generation OneWeb constellation.
