Hughes Network Systems, an EchoStar company, has deployed Jupiter 3, a next-generation ultra-high-density satellite manufactured by Maxar Technologies, to space aboard a SpaceX Falcon Heavy rocket.
The Ka-band spacecraft, also known as EchoStar XXIV, was released from the launch vehicle three hours and twenty-eight minutes after lift-off from Kennedy Space Center Launch Pad 39A in Florida, Hughes said Saturday.
Jupiter 3 will travel to its geosynchronous orbital slot over the next several weeks and undergo extensive bus and payload testing before providing more than 500 Gbps of additional capacity to Hughes’ satellite fleet that offers high-speed internet plans across the Americas region.
The spacecraft will provide HughesNet Fusion internet services to customers in the U.S. and Latin America in support of applications such as in-flight Wi-Fi, enterprise networking and cellular backhaul for mobile network operators.
