General Motors’ defense subsidiary has started operations in Canada in a bid to expand its international programs and support modernization of the Canadian Armed Forces.
The newly incorporated GM Defense Canada will leverage the parent company’s advanced commercial and engineering capabilities, as well as GM Canada’s 448 dealers for maintenance services, GM Defense said Thursday.
The manufacturer developed prototypes of light utility vehicles and infantry squad vehicles based on the Chevrolet Silverado and Chevrolet Colorado ZR2. CAF is expected to procure the prototypes, which were showcased at the Canadian Association of the Defence and Security Industries exhibit.
“The new entity strengthens our ability to develop solutions in Canada as we pursue important near term opportunities, such as the Light Utility Vehicle and Light Forces Enhancement programs,” remarked Stephen duMont, president of GM Defense and a Wash100 awardee.
