Bahman Atefi, the late CEO of Alion Science and Technology who passed away in March 2018, was the recipient of the 2006 Technology Good Scout Award from the National Capital Area Council of the Boy Scouts of America.
Atefi was the notable federal contracting industry leader behind Alion’s shift from a nonprofit organization then called IIT Research Institute into a for-profit employee-owned company to deliver research and engineering services to the government. His 19-year career at IITRI/Alion included 16 years as the independent firm’s CEO.
In a 2009 interview with ExecutiveBiz, Atefi spoke about how the employee stock ownership plan helped with company retention.
“ESOP helps employees feel as if they own a piece of the company; they connect the end result of their work with the price of shares. In our case, all ownership is, essentially, through our retirement fund; it adds another layer of importance that whatever employees do to help the company ultimately improves their retirement fund.”
ExecutiveBiz featured Bahman Atefi as part of Executive Mosaic media group’s coverage of Good Scouts who were recognized for their contributions to the Greater Washington tech sector and demonstration of scouting values.
