UAvionix, an autonomous technology provider backed by Airbus' venture capital arm, has received certification from the Federal Aviation Administration for an unmanned aircraft system communications technology product.
The ping200x technology became the world's first drone transponder approved for FAA TSO performance standard compliance, Airbus Ventures said Tuesday.
Christian Ramsey, president of uAvionix, said the company maintains a line of products designed to help civil aviation customers manage unmanned aircraft safety.
Airbus Ventures noted that a recent flight test campaign saw the transponder operate with the Zephyr UAS, a solar-powered electric vehicle built to operate in the stratosphere.
Playground Global is also an investor in uAvionix.
