Lockheed Martin’s space business hired 2,700 employees and 700 interns in 2020 and executives told SpaceNews in an interview posted Saturday about the company’s college hiring and other recruitment initiatives amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
Nick Spain, vice president for human resources at Lockheed Martin Space, said the company partners with universities, including minority-serving institutions and historically Black colleges and universities, to recruit potential candidates and offers workshops, training opportunities and apprenticeship programs.
“We have programs in place for military hiring. We also have a pretty robust STEM program. We’re making sure that we’re giving people opportunities, whether internships or Co-Ops,” Spain noted. “Another thing we do is partner with our headquarters to make sure we’re searching for executive talent that we need.”
Renu Aggarwal, talent acquisition director at Lockheed, said the company performed over 6,000 virtual interviews in 2020 to hire potential candidates.
Heather Erickson, organizational development director, talked about Lockheed’s workforce upskilling efforts.
“We have a comprehensive tuition reimbursement program. If folks are trying to expand their education, we have practices and policies to support that continuing education whether it be a full degree or just a single course,” said Erickson.
