Ash Carter, who served as secretary of the Department of Defense from 2015 to 2017, has joined the board of Tanium as an independent director, bringing in more than 35 years of government and private sector experience.
Tanium said Wednesday Carter is an innovation fellow at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and the director of the Belfer Center for Science and International Affairs at Harvard Kennedy School, and has experience in national security, technology and innovation.
"Ash brings a honed understanding of building operational excellence at scale and developing the capacity to work across organizations effectively,” said Orion Hindawi, co-founder and CEO of Tanium, after citing Carter's leadership and management skills.
The Emeryville, California-based cybersecurity and systems management company has been appointing industry executives to its board of directors as it works to pursue growth and help organizations address cybersecurity threats.
The Tanium board recently welcomed David Rowland, executive chairman of Accenture; Mark Fields, former CEO of Ford Motor; and Matt Thompson, former executive vice president of worldwide field operations at Adobe.
