Deloitte and Polte have partnered to help the U.S. Navy deploy cellular location technology at a military installation in San Diego as part of a 5G-ready warehouse prototype demonstration project backed by the Department of Defense.
Polte said Tuesday it received a subcontract from Deloitte to equip Naval Base Coronado with the Cloud Location over Cellular platform to help service personnel track assets leaving the facility and being transported to another site.
DOD previously selected Deloitte to vet and test 5G applications that could support material storage, handling and distribution processes at the base.
The professional services company began work in the “smart†warehouse prototyping initiative in February 2021, with Phase 1 efforts to include developing an experiment plan, reviewing security measures and demonstrating the technology.
Kelly Marchese, a Deloitte Consulting principal, said the use of 5G location technology could help military personnel reduce manual warehousing tasks while protecting classified location data.
The prototype effort is projected to conclude sometime in 2024.
