Space Florida has received a five-year commercial space reentry site operator license from the Federal Aviation Administration for the Shuttle Landing Facility in Titusville, Florida.
FAA said Tuesday it issued the license following the completion of an environmental impact assessment.
Space Florida is expanding the SLF’s capabilities to facilitate reentry operations for commercial space operators. It expects the landing facility to accommodate up to one reentry this year and up to six reentries per year by 2025.
Each commercial operator planning to use the SLF for space reentry operations should come up with an environmental document to back its vehicle requirements, subject to FAA approval.
