The Air Force Life Cycle Management Center’s Simulators Division awarded $10M in AFWERX Small Business Innovative Research Phase II contracts to 10 companies selected through a two-day pitch day to identify technologies that could help improve aircrew training, the service said Monday.
The service branch selected 15 companies out of 40 submissions to present their concepts for the Air Force Simulators Pitch Day held on Dec. 8 and 9, 2020, and awarded the SBIR contracts to 10 small businesses on Dec. 18.
The awardees are:

- Contact Control Interfaces
- CORVID Technologies
- Ingalls Information Security
- Moth + Flame
- Netrist Solutions
- Pison Technology
- Soar Technology
- Trek10
3D Media, for instance, is working on a virtual reality system for preflight coordination training intended for weapons loading. Soar Technology is developing a deployable automatic speech recognition system for aircrew training simulators.
“The need to innovate at a faster pace than our adversaries is critical to maintaining our edge on the battlefield of tomorrow,†said U.S. Air Force Col. John Kurian, senior materiel leader. “Implementing the best training capabilities that the commercial world has to offer will ensure our aircrews have that edge.â€Â
