Northrop Invests in AI-Based Radio Transceiver Developer Deepwave Digital

Northrop Grumman has made an investment in Deepwave Digital and partnered with the company to advance research-and-development work on artificial intelligence to enhance communications processing capability.

“We’re evolving the way we think and the way we work, to use emerging commercial technologies to provide our warfighters the most advanced capabilities more quickly,” Chris Daughters, vice president of research, technology and engineering for aeronautics systems at Northrop, said in a statement published Tuesday.

Daughters added the company’s partnership with Deepwave Digital will bring speed, agility and affordability to customers.

Northrop and Jumpstart NJ Angel Network led a round of $3M series seed funding for Deepwave Digital. 

Philadelphia-based Deepwave Digital said Monday Lehigh Valley Angel Investors, Robin Hood Ventures and Ben Franklin Technology Partners also took part in the investment round.

The Artificial Intelligence Radio Transceiver product line, AIR-T, from Deepwave has been used in defense and aerospace applications, including signal detection, cognitive radio, localization and classification. The company is collaborating with Northrop to incorporate its edge compute AI technologies into sensor systems.
